Compelling Evidence of Divine Sovereignty
Roni Ricardo Osório Maia
Spiritism faithfully fulfills its role as the Comforter promised by Jesus¹ by lovingly instructing all who turn to it in search of answers. People who seek coherent explanations and thoughtful reflection are encouraged to reason for themselves, gradually internalizing insights that bring balance to their conscience.
As a doctrine of light and truth, Spiritism offers evidence and facts, presenting its teachings to committed skeptics and to anyone who seeks tangible support.
Through psychographic writings, Spiritism presents messages from departed loved ones, often containing details known only to the intended recipient. Yet for many who remain hesitant about such phenomena, these communications from the spiritual world continue to evoke doubt and suspicion, frequently being dismissed as fraud or deception.
Doubt regarding God and the spiritual life—that is, regarding a supreme force superior to all creatures and an immaterial realm—is a thought that still pervades the minds of a number of skeptics, who remain quite insensitive to it, viewing it as a challenging, unacceptable issue inherent to human imperfection.
Questions about God and the existence of the spiritual world, that is, the existence of a Supreme Force and of a non-material reality, continue to occupy the minds of many skeptics. For them, these subjects remain challenging, difficult to accept, and often regarded as products of human imperfection.
To illustrate this reflection, let us recall the memorable book Our Father, by the venerable Spirit Meimei, psychographed by Francisco Cândido Xavier, which includes the inspiring account “The Existence of God.”
The story tells of a humble, elderly, illiterate servant of Arab origin who prayed with profound devotion. Curious, the leader of a caravan asked how someone unable to read or write could pray with such unwavering faith. In response, the servant posed three simple questions: How do you recognize who wrote a letter? How do you identify the maker of a piece of jewelry? How do you know that animals have passed near the camp? The caravan leader answered, respectively: by the handwriting, by the craftsman’s mark, and by the tracks they leave behind.
The old servant then invited the wealthy skeptic outside the tent and pointed to the night sky, radiant with stars and illuminated by the moon. He quietly remarked, “those stars could not have been made by human hands”. Moved by the simplicity and depth of the lesson, the wealthy man knelt beside his servant, and together they prayed—a moving image of a heart awakened to spiritual truth.
God is present in the deepest thoughts of His creatures. Although some persist in denying the existence of a higher power, every intelligent being possesses an innate awareness of a Supreme Being, and humanity continually receives unmistakable testimony to His existence and infinite greatness.
Many misconceptions and questions remain regarding God, His omnipotence, and His sovereignty. Humanity, particularly those who explore space, continues to investigate the laws that maintain the balance of the universe. Yet the more they investigate, the more they reveal the unmistakable divine order and wisdom, leading many former skeptics to reconsider their views and embrace a spiritual perspective.
One need only observe the sky to witness the harmony of creation. Throughout the universe, countless intelligences exist under the sovereign guidance of the Creator, participating in an order that sustains balance and stability. It is a perfect design. On clear nights, far from light pollution and clouded skies, the naked eye can behold countless constellations of stars. In quiet rural landscapes, where nature reigns undisturbed,² we are offered a glimpse of this magnificent harmony with the cosmos. A starry night sky not only proves this universal order but also invites us to reflect on life and on the sovereignty of God.
