Judas Iscariot

In this article, we will look at the example of Judas Iscariot, a person who, through suicide, marked the end of his life during the time of Jesus. We’ll also discuss his recovery from his guilty act in the spiritual life. The story appears in the Gospel of Matthew (chapter 27, verse 5) and in the Acts of the Apostles (chapter 1, verse 18). We have chosen the account of Matthew, the evangelist, which shows that Judas hanged himself immediately after feeling remorse for his betrayal.

The magnanimous intercessions of Jesus and his mother, Mary of Nazareth, in order to strengthen a Spirit mistaken for the nefarious act of suicide, deserve to be highlighted in our dissertations, starting with the beautiful text of the poem Portrait of a Mother, dictated by the Spirit Maria Dolores and psychographed by Francisco Cândido Xavier. The pious woman went into the pits of suffering where Judas had lodged and comforted him, proposing a new restorative reincarnation in order to strengthen the mistaken suicide.

To better understand the episode, we will turn to the explanations of the Spirit Humberto de Campos, through the psychography of Francisco Cândido Xavier, in the work Crônicas de além-túmulo. The reporter from beyond the grave met the expressive Spirit in the Holy Land who had been branded by Christian humanity as a synonym for betrayal, a fact that had repercussions for him throughout the centuries. We will comment on this being committed to the evils arising from the culpable act of eliminating physical life below.

The spiritual author described to us the physical landscape he visited in the famous secular Jerusalem, as well as the regions of Gethsemane, Golgotha and the Kidron River valley, which became known through the ancient Gospel writers. He made it clear to us that the intelligent being can mnemonically review the historical phases of some earthly stop. He also made it clear that it is possible for spirits to remain in the ruins of buildings from the time of the Roman Empire, due to extreme ignorance.

Humberto de Campos saw a gloomy being on the banks of the Cedron River, and a voice from the invisible told him that it was Judas, who was returning to the environment in which he had lived due to the impregnation of the past, which was still very latent – he usually returned to the city of Jerusalem at the time of the traditions of the Passion of Christ. As an interviewer, Humberto de Campos approached him, asking for confirmation of his personality, and saw that he was Judas, who was there on a visit.

In that colloquial moment, the reporter asked about the betrayal and condemnation of Jesus, with which Judas had collaborated, based on the motives divulged by Christ’s followers. Judas explained to him that the records were not faithful to their truth. In reality, he wanted to spare his master from the tyranny of the Roman state. In vain, he planned a script in which Jesus would be the victor over the temporal power of the Romans. But it didn’t work.

With the arrest, condemnation and crucifixion of a righteous man, and overwhelmed by remorse, Judas sought self-murder as an alternative. In his view, it would be a remission of his guilt. The Spirit Humberto de Campos asked him if he had freed himself from this millennia-old remorse, and the mistaken apostle told him that he had purged himself of that wrongful act for centuries, without freeing himself from the feeling of guilt.

Judas explained that hundreds of years of atonement had been required of him, from the Roman persecution of Christians to the end of his earthly romances at the stake during the Inquisition. He also stated that, just as happened to the Master, he was betrayed, commercialized and taken possession of, until he was rescued in the 15th century in Europe. The writer Hermínio C. Miranda (pseudonym João Marcus), in his book Candeia na noite escura (Candle in the Dark Night), recorded that Judas was the French heroine Joan of Arc in one of her reincarnations.

At that moment, the natural born Iscariot was recapitulating his cycle of experiences and moral upliftment. He only regretted that, during the time when Christ’s martyrdom is remembered on Earth, his name is identified as a traitor. He also praised Jesus’ unconditional love for him and for all those who had mistakenly linked Christ’s image to earthly business, mistakenly using him as a commercial product. Judas then turned away and headed for the site of the Holy Sepulchre.

In the book Estante da vida (Bookshelf of Life), dictated by Brother X (Humberto de Campos) and psychographed by Francisco Cândido Xavier, there is another narrative about the magnanimous action of the crucified Christ towards Judas at the moment of his torture on Calvary. In the text entitled “The Lonely Angel”, Jesus whispers a request to a messenger of charity that is inaudible to men. This would be the request to help and support Judas in Jerusalem.

We will also find in Pelos caminhos de Jesus (Amélia Rodrigues, dictated to Divaldo Pereira Franco) the lesson “O anjo da misericórdia” (The Angel of Mercy), which explains the behind-the-scenes moments of the crucifixion. Like Brother X, the spiritual author tells us about the sublime entities who appeared during that sad episode, asking the martyred man to follow them. After their failures in actions of faith, hope and charity towards men, they were disillusioned with their tasks.

A sublime being called the Angel of Mercy intervened at that moment through a luminous trail from heaven to earth. The aim was to help the crucified man, at the Father’s request. He received a request from the Most Excellent Rabbi to remain in the world and to take three Spirits with him. First, they would help the soldier Longinus, who had cruelly lanced Jesus and lost his sight. They would then restore his extinguished clarity. Then they would support Judas, who had taken his own life. Then they would comfort Peter, who was dejected and painfully remorseful.

In the beautiful poem Retrato de mãe (Portrait of a Mother), the Spirit Maria Dolores, through the psychography of Francisco Cândido Xavier, described, with a peculiar wealth of detail and ample textual simplicity, the intervention of Mary of Nazareth in the caves of suffering where the repentant suicide had lodged. This superior Spirit undertook to help him in future reparatory reincarnations.

This is appropriate news in view of Christ’s messianic mandate on Earth. They praise his interference with the afflicted and debtors. Judas Iscariot himself extolled Jesus’ love for all his brothers and sisters on their arduous pilgrimage on the planet. Just as happened with the apostle who betrayed the Messiah, several men in moral collapse have been raised up and transformed over the centuries.
